What is it that you want to do?
Yes, we’re talking about your health and fitness goals
- Why do you want to do it?
- What is your Why?
- What is your plan?
How are you going to execute your plan?
It’s that time of year again. No. Not necessarily about resolutions but about reflection. It’s been one heck of a year for ALL of us. And it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Since you have had all this time to sit back and wait, what are you going to do once you can cut loose when life gets back to “normal”?
Let’s discuss some KEY factors that must be implemented for your plan to be completed.
The biggest thing you need for your journey is Will.
Will is the one thing we control completely, always. Will, generally, is the faculty of the mind [1] that selects, at the moment of decision, a desire among the various desires present; it itself does not refer to any particular desire, but rather to the mechanism responsible for choosing from among one’s desires. The two words that should stand out in the Wikipedia definition are decision and choosing. We all have free will. But it is in the moment of decision that we choose a path to go on. We’re choosing it. This self-responsibility is key.
Along with Will you will need to act with Consistency.
Consistency
Dictionary.com and the Cambridge Dictionary define consistency as –
Dictionary.com [2] – steadfast adherence to the same principles, course, form, etc.: Ex: There is consistency in his pattern of behavior.
Cambridge Dictionary [3] – the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way, or of always happening in a similar way:
Anytime I have been consistent in my behavior while working towards my goals I have attained them. Yes, there is always a process. But whether it be something that you are working towards that has to do with behavior, physically or even intellectually. It is far more difficult and take much more time and energy if you are not consistent while working through the process. You have to be consistent in your effort.
Persistence and Perseverance
Persistence is one thing, but perseverance is the long game.
This is where the rubber meets the road.
Perseverance [4] – continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition: the action or condition or an instance of persevering: steadfastness.
Persistence [5] – Persistence refers to perseverance in spite of fatigue or frustration.
One of the biggest obstacles you may face is patience. Consistency over time yields results. We must keep the end in mind. No matter how long that takes. No matter what. Remember, you are in it for the long haul. If you begin the process you will be further along than if you never began.
Consider this from German Poet and Statesman, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:
Until One is Committed
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do,
Or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius,
Power and magic in it.
Turning Thoughts into Actions
Anytime I turn my thoughts into actions I complete the task that is in front of me.
And yes, it’s not always easy. In fact, sometimes damn hard. What is your goal?
Learning that you can push through to the other side is KEY. You find out that you will not die. One step at a time. Remember – Will, Consistency, Persistency and Perseverance.
How much do you want to feel that feeling of success?
Don’t you want to be capable of being as healthy and fit as you are right now, in ten years from now?…….Or better?
Isn’t this what we’re all looking towards?
Here’s to an AWESOME 2021!
