21st Annual Picacho Peak Hike

Picacho Peak is about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson along Interstate 10. We had a group of 11 on a beautiful day.

We hiked Hunter Trail which is a 3 mile out and back trail with scenic views and is rated difficult on AllTrails. The elevation gain is 1961 ft. This hike is best between September and May.

It takes about 2 to 3 hours to hike roundtrip. There’s cabling to assist at the steep parts. The trail is well marked.

It takes about 1/2 an hour to hike to the saddle, then there’s a short descent before the hike continues upwards to the top.

Gloves come in handy on this trail for a better grip and to hold on to the cabling.

The top is a 360 (windy often) view of the Sonora Desert.
